3-D Holly Band Ornament

In this project you will learn how to join fabric with the Linen Finishing Stitch;
  how to attach a hanger; how to attach ribbons;
and how to stuff the object "just right."

This chart will no longer be available as a complimentary chart as of March 1, 2006.

1. Print Chart.

Click HERE for chart and color code. This chart is used for all three sides of the ornament pictured.

( You can also stitch just one panel on perforated paper, trim to within one paper square on all sides, finish the back and add a hanger and you have a great package decoration that can also be an ornament!)

2. Stitch three panels on linen, "over two."

Tip: stitch the three panels on a single piece of linen with 1 - 1˝" between them. When the first one is complete, baste two lines across the fabric even with the top and bottom of it. This will serve as a guide to make sure all three are the exact same size.

3. Prepare to assemble:

You will need either No. 12 Pearl Cotton (DMC #642, Dark Taupe*) or you can continue to use 2 strands of floss (DMC # 3032*); fabric shears absorbent paper towels; fray-reducing liquid like Dritz Fray Check™ or Dyno's Fray No More™.

Cut out each panel, leaving a half inch seam allowance on all sides. Do not clip the corners!

Lay all three pieces on a paper towel. Apply the fray-reducer sparingly and do not let it seep into the design area. If it stays in the seam allowance, that is fine. Allow it to dry thoroughly. In a hurry? Use a hand held blow dryer to speed up the process!

*The fiber you use for the Linen Finishing Stitch should match the stitch color along the edges to be joined. It also needs to be strong . . . never use a single strand of floss.

4. To assemble:

Go to "Linen Finishing Stitch" instructions.
