"We focused on what was important to us
and we
never wavered from it."

Kristin chose the wedding location carefully and kept true to her heart's
desire. Sentimental to her very core, she knew that the ceremony had to be
in a place that held special importance to her-- and pound for pound,
Salem Academy was the most sentimental place in her home town. As an
alumna, she could use the "town square" at Old Salem, an
historic site which adjoins the school and college, free of charge. |
|
And
since Old Salem, Inc. allows the use of
tents, she didn't have to line up
an inclement weather alternative.

The informal, outdoor setting was
practically fidget proof for
all the young guests
and her two precious attendants.

Kristin & Darren wrote their ideal guest list --and
then never cut it-- even once. They not only avoided the dreaded "cut and
compromise" ordeal, they made sure that
the guests were people they wanted at their wedding --all of them!

The location and style accommodated everyone who was near and
dear to them. Guests brought their own quilts and blankets. For Kristin and
Darren, the informal "seating" also eliminated the expense of
renting chairs. They asked both sets of parents for suggestions and
"just didn't involve anyone else" in the decision making, once
again side-stepping another common stressor.

Kristin, a self proclaimed Victorian at heart, fell in love
with her wedding dress while attending Oxford and tried it on for the
first time in Debenham's while her parents were visiting her -- BEFORE she
even met Darren, much less even thinking of him as "the one." When I asked her about this
non-traditional approach, her answer was typical Kristin: "No matter
who you married, this would be the dress you'd want to wear." |
More than two years
later, her mother called with a tip on a serious
markdown during a going-out-of-business sale. There, she found an almost
identical dress and Kristin bought it! Her
advice? Buy the dress you love because YOU love it. Actually, this came in
handy, for when Darren did pop the question, they were able to plan the
wedding in two and half months, allowing Kristin to have her wedding
out-of-doors, another high priority on her must-have list.
