The dotted lines on this chart represent the pulled back stitch. Work "over two" with a single strand of No. 12 ecru pearl cotton. Remember, the tighter the pull, the lacier the look! I worked around the sides of the box, then did the middle horizontal row. Then I stitched the vertical dividers. I zig-zagged from vertical row to vertical row, again, to keep the lacy holes "open." In general, a traveling stitch fiber on the diagonal will not show was readily as one that is parallel to the linen threads. Once you have created the blocks of 8 threads wide and 8 threads high, center a Smyrna Cross Stitch into each one. Use a single strand of No. 8 Ecru pearl cotton. AIDA: Follow the same chart and substitute traditional backstitch for the pulled backstitch. |
